Welcome!

The Kings Head pub in Tooting dates back to the 1770s. Originally a coaching inn and latterly a magnificent gin palace, this gorgeous Grade II listing building has to be seen to be believed.

The Kings Head pub once served as a coach house for those travelling south from London. It was redesigned into a stunning gin parlour by the vision of the famous William Mortimer Brutton, who was renowned for his exquisite architectural design and ability. The Kings Head proudly boasts magnificent ceramic tiling, ornate wood work, engraved glass as well as the majority of the original partitions remain intact. The Kings Head is justly grade II listed building, and stands in contrast to its bland and mundane surroundings in comparison.

The Kings Head is an exceptional example of a classic London Gin Palace. Rebuilt in 1896, the architect Brutton was famous for building pubs across London in a unique and extravagant style. These attracted intellectuals and artists in the 1920s such as Virginia Woolf and George Bernard Shaw. English Heritage describes The Kings Head as ‘perhaps his masterpiece and least altered interior’. The pub has retained the public and saloon bar and still has the charm of etched glass and dark wooden panelling.
