Welcome!

The Devereux does no less than charm you with its elegant and stylish exterior, located in a quaint little alleyway just off the Strand in the heart of Temple.

However, don’t let this is pretty little pub coax you into assuming it is an ordinary establishment. The Devereux is steeped in mystery, as staff claim there is a haunted room downstairs. The Templar room featured in the Devereux is said to have had enigmatic Freemasonry meetings held there, however, the subjects of which were sworn to secrecy by its members.

The Devereux is located near Fleet Street named after the River Fleet, the largest underground river in London and featured in the musical ‘Sweeney Todd’. The Street, was once the home of British national newspapers in the 1980s and was also the residence of distinguished poet and writer Oliver Goldsmith, who is buried in the grounds of the Church of St. Mary, Middle Temple, Fleet Street, London. His monument was destroyed in an air-raid in 1941. Temple is one of the main legal districts of the capital, which includes the temple building, formerly the property of the Knights of Templar.
